Pregame notes
The Washington Mystics are coming off an historic quadruple (yes, 4OT!) overtime win against the Portland Fire, with a score 124-123, that looks more like an NBA score at first glance.
It took 60 minutes, but the young legs of Sonia Citron were up for the challenge. She scored 25 points in the last 30 minutes (fourth
quarter and the four overtimes) to carry the Mystics.
The win finally put the Mystics at 0.500, with a record of 9-9, after doodling in that range but mostly looking at the 0.500 mark for most of the season.
Michaela Onyenwere and Kiki Iriafen were also huge scoring 30 (!) and 27, and now the Mystics can really hope this “energy win” powers them forward on a winning streak.
But energy alone won’t suffice against the Dream, that are one of the best teams in the East now. They sit, nearly tied, with the Liberty atop the East standings.
Morevoer, the Dream just had their first three-game losing streak (in fact, they had never lost consecutive games this season prior to this streak). So, by all accounts, this predicts to be a very tough game for the Mystics.
Here the highlights from their previous match-up, a few weeks ago, that the Dream won very easily. Washington has had a reputation for bouncing back against “big opponents.” Perhaps that could happen again tomorrow night.
