There may have only been eight Mountain West teams in action, but there were plenty of great performances this past weekend. With that being said, let’s take a look at the top performances from week nine.
Offensive Player of the Week
Lucky Sutton (San Diego State)
The junior running back had one of the best games of his career in a rivalry game victory over Fresno State. Sutton had 131 yards on 21 carries, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Sutton’s outstanding performance allowed the Aztecs to control the ball and methodically move down the field for much of the contest.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jeremiah Earby (Boise State)
The senior cornerback is playing his best football of the season at just the right time. In Boise State’s 24-3 victory, Earby had two interceptions and four tackles. Both of Earby’s interceptions came deep in Boise State territory and likely prevented the Wolf Pack from putting points on the board.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Gabriel Plascencia (San Diego State)
The Aztec kicker was outstanding in San Diego State’s 23-0 win over Fresno State. He connected on all three field goal attempts, including a long of 50 yards.
Freshman of the Week
Cade Keith (New Mexico)
The freshman tight end had the best game of his young career in New Mexico’s dominating victory over Utah State. Keith had 7 catches for 104 yards and a touchdown. His biggest reception went for 40 yards. It was a breakout game for Keith who had only 10 receptions coming in.
Newcomer of the Week
Miles Davis (Utah State)
The former BYU running back was one of the few bright spots in Utah State’s 33-14 loss to New Mexico. In only 10 carries, Davis rushed for 110 yards including a 64-yard touchdown run.
