Khyiris Tonga will be moving on after one season in Foxborough.
The former New England Patriots defensive tackle has reached agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs on a three-year, $21 million contract, as NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported on Monday. The pact brings $14 million guaranteed.
Tonga, 29, arrived at Gillette Stadium on a one-year deal last March. The unrestricted free agent soon became an offseason award winner under head coach Mike Vrabel. He went on to appear in 14 games along the interior
defensive line. By the playoff run to Super Bowl LX, he stood with 24 tackles as well as two stops for loss, two batted passes and two quarterback hits.
Making eight starts for the Patriots in the company of standout defensive tackles Milton Williams and Christian Barmore, Tonga played an all-purpose part. The 6-foot-2, 325-pound run presence handled 337 snaps on defense, 65 snaps on special teams and 14 snaps on offense as a situational fullback.
Selected in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL draft at No. 250 overall, Tonga made previous stops with the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals. A veteran of 67 games, including 15 starts, the Brigham Young product has logged 113 tackles, one fumble recovery and a split sack during his career.
The NFL’s legal tampering window opened at 12 p.m. ET on Monday. The 2026 league year officially kicks off at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
