The San Francisco 49ers released their first injury report of the season. Christian McCaffrey (tightness) and Mike Evans (adductor) were not listed.
However, defensive tackle Alfred Collins popped up on the injury report for the first time with a knee injury. Here’s the complete report:
Limited:
Edge Nick Bosa (knee) DT Alfred Collins (knee) LB Luke Gifford (hamstring) CB Renardo Green (hamstring) LB Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) DT Gracen Halton (ankle) Edge Romello Height (ankle) FB Kyle Juszczyk (finger)
TE George Kittle (Achilles)
That is not a short injury list. It also includes several starters and key contributors.
The depth along the defensive line was already in question. James Thompson was the lone player who did not practice due to a hamstring injury. Add in Halton’s injury, and that leaves Osa Odighizuwa and CJ West as the lone defensive tackles who are healthy.
Raheem Morris’s recent quote about Renardo Green did not provide much optimism:
“We’ll definitely see where he’s at. Obviously, we’ve seen Bosa before we left. We got a chance to see him a little bit throughout the process. We’ll see more of him today, but Renardo’s kind of- I don’t want to say a step behind- but he’s right there in that mix. We’ll get a chance to see him, watch him practice, and do some different things as well.”
That would mean Jack Jones, a cornerback who was a free agent in April, would start.
Staying in the secondary, Upton Stout practiced in full, although he was listed with an Achilles designation.
As for the Rams, Myles Garrett (knee) did not participate. A few other starters didn’t either, but it wasn’t injury-related. Since this is the first of three practice reports, we’ll see how these designations change over the course of the week.
