Quick and dirty today.
Golf
The Wildcat women faltered in the final round and finished fourth at the Yale Invitational West in La Quinta, Calif. on Tuesday. After entering day two at 6-under, the Cats posted a 15-over third round, pushing the team and everyone on it down the leaderboards. After being only two strokes back of Pepperdine after Monday’s play, the team finished 24 shots adrift, as the Waves posted a 9-under for the tournament, beating Kansas by two strokes. Virginia Tech came in third, seven
shots better than the Cats.
K-State did have two players finish in the top 20. Nanami Nakashima shot a 5-over in the final round to finish at 3-over and in 18th place; Kelsey Chen was 4-over on the day after an even-par Monday, and finished tied for 19th. Casey Kang, after a stellar five-under on the first 18 holes, was 11-over on the final 36; Noa van Beek had a nightmarish Tuesday, shooting 10-over after an even-par Monday.
Next weekend, the Cats will “host” the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz.
HONKBAL!
The Batcats continued hitting and winning in their midweek games. On Tuesday, in a game where Wichita State (11-6) kept taking the lead in the top of innings and immediately relinquishing it in the bottom, the Cats outlasted the Shockers 7-5. Tied 5-5 in the sixth, Carlos Vasquez ripped a triple to right to plate two runs and the bullpen did the rest. Adam Arther (1-0) picked up the win, and Dee Kennedy hit another homer.
Last night, the Wildcats drew 12 walks and had a four-run inning in which they didn’t even record a hit. Austin Haley three five scoreless innings to pick up the win in K-State’s 9-0 shutout of South Dakota State.
K-State (13-4) now heads to Houston for a three-game weekend set to open Big 12 play. 6:30 starts on Friday and Saturday precede a 1:00 getaway game on Sunday; all three games will air on ESPN+.
