Phil Bardsley believes Harry Kane would still be an incredible signing for Manchester United, even with the striker seemingly settled at Bayern Munich.

The former Manchester United defender has previously expressed his belief that the club should have moved for Kane before the England captain left Tottenham Hotspur for Germany in 2023. Kane has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, scoring 61 goals for Bayern Munich across all competitions last season and winning

the European Golden Shoe.

Bardsley, who came through the Manchester United academy and made 18 appearances for the first team before going on to enjoy a long Premier League career with Sunderland, Stoke City and Burnley, would still welcome the opportunity to see Kane wearing red Manchester United kit.

“Harry Kane looks quite settled at Bayern. He had a great campaign last year, and the amount of goals he scored was incredible. I said it before he went there, Manchester Utd should’ve gone and bought him, before you know it, he signs for Bayern, bangs a load of goals in, and is in the running for the Ballon d’Or,” Bardsley told Lyllo Casino. “So listen, he’s a proven goalscorer. Would he like to come back to England and break that Premier League record? I’d say so. I’d love to see him in a red shirt, I would. He’d be incredible at Manchester United, but if he’s settled down and enjoying his football, it’s very hard to pull a player away from a club where he’s enjoying it so much.”

Kane’s own comments this summer suggested that a return to England is not currently his priority. He said he is “extremely happy” in Munich and that the desire to return to England and chase Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record is not as strong as it once was.

For Manchester United, that makes Bardsley’s idea considerably more complicated. The admiration is clear, but Kane’s happiness at Bayern Munich could ultimately be the biggest obstacle to any potential return to England.
