Once again, the Spurs face a team that’s playing with a severely shortened roster tonight, as the Mavericks traded away 4 players, and the players they traded for aren’t expected to be available tonight. Derrick Lively was lost earlier this season and Daniel
Gafford is questionable with an ankle sprain. I’m not even going to list the available players, because I don’t even know, but it could be another day where a Spurs squad faces a decimated opponent. The Spurs also have some injury issues, with Luke Kornet out with ankle and adductor issues. This could be another ugly night for the Silver and Black, but then again, if the Spurs can pull out a win, it’s not actually ugly, its just a little less pretty than optimal.
The Spurs are coming off of a win over the Thunder skeleton crew, which was a little frustrating to watch, but it’s hard to argue with a 10 point win and a 4-1 record over the first place team in the west. Tonight they hope for a more consistent effort against the Dallas Mavericks, who just traded away Anthony Davis and are betting their future on Cooper Flagg, who is really making waves as he’s been scoring in bunches lately after a bit of a slow start to the season. The Mavs have come a long way since the Spurs blew them out 125-92 in the opening game of the season. It would be a nice night for Victor Wembanyama to be dominant in the paint, and for De’Aaron Fox to take over for the Silver and Black. Of course, the heart and soul of the team is Keldon Johnson, and he’s going to be a key performer as the Spurs try to keep their win streak going and keep a cushion on the third place Nuggets. The Spurs will face the Mavs again on Saturday night in San Antonio, so this will be a good night to set a tone as they prepare for the All Star break. Let’s GOO SPURS!!
Game Prediction:
Keldon Johnson will block two Cooper Flagg shots.
