The Cleveland Browns are heading into yet another season with significant uncertainty surrounding who will be their starting quarterback. It is not out of the realm of possibility that they may decide to draft a young quarterback to add to the group. It is also not entirely impossible that they go after one of the more veteran quarterbacks that will be available in free agency. There is a strong case to be made that this would be a smart decision for the team.
We recently talked about Tyler Huntley
as a veteran option.
Malik Willis is an intriguing option with considerable upside potential. At only 26 years old, a strong performance could position him as a key part of the team’s future plans. Willis was ESPN’s “bold prediction” for the Browns in free agency. His dual-threat abilities would make him a really intriguing option for the Cleveland offense after he showed some real progress and growth in Green Bay. The potential salary that it would take to acquire him will likely be higher than many would be comfortable with, but that is the going rate for free agent quarterbacks in the present-day NFL.
Marcus Mariota is a veteran option that the Browns could pursue; however, he would offer far less upside or long-term potential compared to Willis. He brings substantial NFL experience as both a starter and a backup, which could help bring much-needed stability to the offense. He would cost the team less money and would most likely be on a short-term deal, which would be a low-risk move for the team to make.
