Good morning, foLLks, and happy Monday and final day of August!
The Mariners… did not win yesterday, capping off a weekend series in Toronto in which they were on the wrong end of a sweep. They’ve limped into Fenway for a three-game set in their final East Coast stop of the season, and the first game of the series kicks off at 3:45pm Pacific time.
In Mariners news:
- The Mariners will be calling up top prospect Lázaro Montes tomorrowwhen rosters officially expand. The slugging 6’5” outfielder is expected to get regular at-bats down the stretch in right field and at DH.
- In case you missed it, the M’s placed Emerson Hancock on the injured list with an adductor strain, most likely suffered on a diving attempt to tag out Nathan Lukes in the first inning of his Friday outing. Nick Davila was recalled to take his spot on the roster, and tossed a low-leverage inning yesterday.
Around the league:
- At long last, the Red Sox have activated Roman Anthony and Trevor Story off of the injured list, and just in time for the Mariners to come to town! Anthony has not appeared in a Major league game since May 4th, while Story has been sidelined since May 14th.
- Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Byron Buxton was placed on the injured list, this time with a hip impingement. While the Twins are hopeful that he will be back this season, with their playoff hopes fading, we may have seen the last of the star outfielder in 2026.
- Old friend Mitch Garver triggered the assignment clause in his minor league deal with the Yankees. Other teams have until 12pm Pacific time today to inform New York if they would add him to their big league roster, and if there are any takers, the Yanks have 48 hours to either add the Garv man to their active roster or trade him to an interested club.
- Things seem to be going well in the Mile High City.
