It’s been an exciting start to the season for both Syracuse Orange men’s and women’s basketball. Brace yourselves, we’re about to kick it up another notch.
Our Taco Time Tracker is back and better than ever in 2025, as we’ll be highlighting both teams’ Bellringers over the next few months.
In case you haven’t heard, “Taco Time” is a Dome tradition that is nearly 30 years old. As in recent years, if the men’s team scores 70 points or more at home, all fans walk away with a free Taco Bell Crunchy Beef
taco voucher. In women’s games, the target score is 65 points.
The promotion is always a big hit, and gives me the excuse to add in this video every year:
Anyways, here’s where we stand for each team in early December:
Both squads are off to a hot start “Against the Taco Spread,” going a combined 8-2. We have a three-way tie on the men’s side, with all three bell-ringing shots coming in different forms: Sadiq White dunk (Binghamton), Nate Kingz layup (Delaware State) and J.J. Starling’s three-pointer (Monmouth). The unbeaten streak came to an end against Tennessee, but I think all of us will happily sacrifice our free taco for a court storming.
Over on the women’s side, the beef tacos are coming fast and furious with Orange fans racking up five freebies in the early going. Like the men, the bellringer crown is also evenly distributed, highlighted by two offensive rebounds and second-chance points by Jasmyn Cooper (Canisius) and Shy Hawkins (Howard). A free throw by Sophie Burrows in overtime against Auburn not only delivered the knockout blow to the Tigers, but also filled the tastebuds of the Dome faithful in the process.
There are still tons of potential free tacos to go, and the Orange look to continue their taco-tastic pace with the women’s game against Colgate on Wednesday night.
Who do you think wins the 2025-26 Bellringer crown? Let us know in the comments below.
