Since undergoing an offseason procedure, there hasn’t been much news on Paul George beyond the usual “progressing” and “ramping up” updates. It now appears that ramp-up period is nearing its end, as Bleacher
Report’s Jake Fischer reports that the nine-time All-Star is close to returning.
Fischer offered a bit more clarity on the timeline, noting that George is expected to make his season debut sometime within the next week or so. Based on the timing of the report, that would place his potential return between Nov. 5 and the 11th. The Sixers have several games in that window — they’ll visit Cleveland to face the Cavaliers on Nov. 5, then host back-to-back matchups against the Toronto Raptors (Nov. 8) and Detroit Pistons (Nov. 9). They’ll wrap up that stretch with a home game against the Boston Celtics on Nov. 11.
The Sixers, as many know, have been rolling — but they’ll certainly welcome reinforcements on the way. So far, Philadelphia ranks near the bottom of the league in corner three-point attempts, an area where both Paul George and Jared McCain should provide a major boost once they’re back.
As for McCain, the latest update had him sidelined four-to-six weeks with a mild UCL tear, a timeline that conveniently overlaps with George’s expected return. While the situation remains fluid, the Sixers shouldn’t be shorthanded for much longer.
So far, Tyrese Maxey has averaged a league-leading 43 minutes per game, with VJ Edgecombe not far behind at 40. The return of George and McCain should help ease that heavy workload and bring some much-needed balance to the rotation.
Last season, we saw George suit up for 41 games, averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.8 steals in 32.5 minutes per game after signing a four-year deal worth over $211 million. Admittedly, George spent much of the season battling through various injuries, which limited his impact. Barring any setbacks, this could be the healthiest version of George we’ve seen in Philadelphia yet.
With George and McCain both nearing their returns, the Sixers could soon look like the complete version of the team they envisioned this summer (and some of last year). Maxey and Edgecombe have carried the load admirably, but reinforcements are on the way — and they couldn’t come at a better time.
