Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal
attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs begin their second of four back-to-backs tonight in Memphis, against the Grizzlies who are missing most of their roster tonight, as Zach Edey, Cedric Coward, Brandon Clarke and others will be out tonight, and Ja Morant is questionable with a calf injury. For the Spurs, Devin Vassell is out and Victor Wembanyama is questionable with a sore knee that he suffered late in the New Year’s Eve game against the Knicks. I would expect the Spurs to put Victor on the court for at least a few minutes, as he wouldn’t have traveled with the team if they weren’t planning to give him a go. Even with a minutes restriction, having the big guy on the court should be a big boost for the Silver and Black against the understaffed Memphis squad.
There is a temptation to look ahead of tonight’s game to tomorrow’s contest against the Lakers, who want to advance in the Western Conference playoff standings. But as we’ve seen this week, the Spurs cannot take any opponent lightly, and another poor start could put them in a bad spot as they look to close out tonight’s game early and get some rest for the starters. It would be great to see Victor cheering on the bench squad to an easy win after playing about 20 minutes, and have the team well rested to face LeBron and Luka on Wednesday.
Game Prediction:
The Incredible Hulk will show up during the game and toss the Grizzly mascot into the stands.
