The series Vice TV president Pete Gaffney calls “one of our strongest franchises”, the pro wrestling docuseries Dark Side of the Ring, is on its way back for a seventh season.
Variety got the scoop today (May 7). Dark Side returns with a two-parter on Tues., July 7 at 9 p.m. Eastern, with new episodes starting the following week. July 14’s show is related to season’s first two. Those three hours will focus on TNA Wrestling and the personal and professional struggles faced and largely overcome by one
of its founders, Jeff Jarrett.
Dark Side co-creators Evan Husney and Jason Eisener are quoted as saying of the season-opening trilogy:
“Each season, we try to challenge ourselves to go deeper, and season seven is our most ambitious yet.
“That’s especially true with our three-part exploration of TNA Wrestling, where Jeff Jarrett’s journey of redemption and resilience gives us a unique lens into the highs, struggles, and lasting impact of the foundational years of the company. It’s a perfect example of how compelling and ultimately human these stories really are.”
In addition to his work, Jarrett lost his first wife Jill in 2007 and fought addiction for years before getting sober in October of 2017.
Here’s a full list of topics Dark Side of the Ring will be covering this summer:
- Three-parter on TNA and Double J
- Paul Orndorff
- Big Boss Man (Ray Traylor)
- Missy Hyatt
- Samoa Joe and Necro Butcher’s hatred of one another, and their IWA-Mid South match from 2005 that’s undersold when people call it a “bloodbath”
- Zach Gowen
- The Renegade (Rick Wilson), “an exotic dancer who had a brief run as [an] Ultimate Warrior knockoff.”
