The Worlds End PPV is this Saturday, and that’s where AEW will hold the semi-finals and finals of this year’s Continental Classic Tournament. Heading into Dynamite on 34th Street tonight (Weds., Dec. 24)
however, neither of the two round-robin Leagues had determined their two semi-finalists.
One spot was filled in the first C2 match on the Christmas Eve Dynamite from New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Konosuke Takeshita beat Orange Cassidy to clinch one of Blue League’s semi-final berths.
Next up was the already eliminated Roderick Strong, whose disappointing run continued with a loss to Mascara Dorada that keeps the luchador in the hunt for Blue League’s other semi-final spot.
And in the night’s only Gold League match, Jack Perry refused to be eliminated, pinning PAC to give all six men in that group 6 points!
Which makes the standings look like this headed into the last night of Continental Classic action…
Blue League
Konosuke Takeshita* (3-0-1): 10 points
Claudio Castagnoli (2-1-1): 7
Jon Moxley (2-2-0): 6
Orange Cassidy (2-2-0): 6
Mascara Dorada (2-2-0): 6
Roderick Strong** (0-4-0): 0
Gold League
Kazuchika Okada (2-2-0): 6 points
PAC (2-2-0): 6
Kyle Fletcher (2-2-0): 6
“Speedball” Mike Bailey (2-2-0): 6
Kevin Knight (2-2-0): 6
Jack Perry (2-2-0): 6
* Clinched semi-final spot
** Mathematically eliminated
So it all comes down to Christmas Collision, where Takeshita/Dorada, Strong/Castagnoli, and Moxley/Cassidy will decide the Blue League’s two semi-finalists, and Fletcher/Perry, Knight/PAC, and Okada/Bailey the Gold League’s.
