Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about a big Mizzou Hoops win
Mizzou Basketball’s first 2-0 start to SEC play (ever) resulted in a win over defending National Champions Florida and their first ever win at Rupp Arena.
Despite the loss on Saturday at Ole Miss, Missouri’s 2-1 start to conference play allowed a path back into the NCAA Tournament picture.
Per the latest bracketology, Mizzou was among the last four in according to CBS Sports and Fox Sports’ Mike DeCourcy.
Still, there’s a lot more work to do per ESPN’s Joe Lunardi as the Tigers are on the wrong side of the bubble (among next four out).
On Wednesday night, Missouri grabbed a much-needed 84-74 win over Auburn.
Mizzou improved 13-4 overall to 3-1 in SEC play and stayed unbeaten at home with an 11-0 mark behind a team-leading 22 points by Jayden Stone. He and Trent Pierce make a huge difference, don’t they?
Outperforming the margins by nine points? Always ideal.
Up next for Mizzou? A road date with LSU (who are still searching for their first SEC win) on Saturday. Then a manageable homestand against Georgia and Oklahoma. An opportunity to take advantage.

It was a big day for Mizzou’s transfer class yesterday, as the Tigers added not one, not two, not three, but four new players to their class.
The transfer portal haul continues for Mizzou.
The Tigers coaching staff first struck gold early in the portal process as former Mississippi State Bulldog Luke Work signed on to move to Columbia next season. While not the only linemen they’ve added (or need to continue to add,) Work should play a valuable role rebuilding the depth of the unit.
Can never go wrong from an offensive lineman with SEC experience that Luke Work provides.
Meanwhile, Mizzou leads the SEC with an effective field goal percentage of 55.4 percent. It’s a matchup that suits the home team.
Missouri was able to defend their home court with another solid offensive performance.
It’s been tough sledding through conference play thus far for Mizzou women’s basketball, as they are currently 0-4 with an average margin of defeat of 20.5 points. These losses have all come against top-25 teams with a combined record of 68-4. However, head coach Kellie Harper does not want to use this high-level competition as any sort of excuse.
Some perspective on Mizzou WBB’s struggles. It’s a gauntlet in Year One under Kellie Harper.
The Tigers have now brought in five defensive backs this offseason. MU added JaDon Blair from Notre Dame, Kensley Louidor-Faustin from Auburn and Elijah Dotson from Michigan alongside the two Oregon transfers.
The secondary seems to be a priority this offseason for Eli Drinkwitz and the staff.
Mizzou is now 13-4 and 3-1 in SEC play, which gives the team another valuable win for their tournament resume. MU entered the game either barely or solidly on the bubble in most major bracket projections.
3-1 start to SEC play is a good spot to be in (for now).
Plus, a 15-day portal window for college hoops and the ongoing transfer portal.
