There weren’t as many goals this time around but the US closed out their four match international window by winning their fourth straight match 1-0 over Canada in a hotly contested match that featured43 fouls and four yellow cards combined between the two teams that quite frankly probably could have been doubled.
The US made quite a few changes from the lineup that defeated Mexico on Saturday night with Chris Richards, Alex Freeman, Auston Trusty, Gio Reyna, and Malik Tillman as the holdovers from that match.
For that matter, even Trusty was playing in a different role as he played on the left and George Campbell joined Chris Richards as a starting centerback.
Among the new faces on the night was Justin Ellis, who started the opening match of the break against Peru and scored early. Ellis took a hard foul 22’ in to this match and was limping around for much of the first half but was able to make the run to get on the end of an Alex Freeman shot / cross in the 29th minute to score the only goal of the match.
Ellis would limp off at the half and was among those replaced at halftime as Sebastian Berhalter, Sergino Dest, and Julian Hall came into the match. Unlike the prior matches this break the US would struggle to pour it on, or dominate possession after finding the opener but the US would hold firm, Brian Schwake made three saves, and the US took the 1-0 win to finish out the window in perfect fashion, while defeating their two biggest rivals in the region to close it out.
