Velus Jones underperformed during his time with the Chicago Bears. He fumbled. He dropped passes. He generally made the offense go the wrong direction.
I don’t think anybody was shocked to learn that in late
October of 2024, the Bears had enough and cut Jones loose.
Since his release, Jones has been signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Seattle Seahawks.
He’s played 10 games in total since his release from the Bears. He has no catches, 5 rushing attempts, no punt returns, and 9 kick returns.
Needless to say, he hasn’t exactly been an integral part of any of these teams post-Bears.
Perhaps it was because he’s aging, afterall, Velus Jones was born just 3 months apart from SAQUON BARKLEY.
Or perhaps it’s because he just isn’t very good.
Regardless, Jones doesn’t care. After the Chicago Bears lost to the LA Rams in overtime, Jones quickly took to Twitter for the first time in two years.
Bears fans didn’t appreciate that tweet too much. But after he was a healthy scratch for the NFC Championship game, his team won, and he was still laughing all the way.
Jones still wants everyone that crticized him to know that he’s headed to California to participate in the Super Bowl festivities. Will he be active for the game? That’s doubtful, but certainly possible.
The Seahawks are favored, and it’s more likely than not that Velus Jones is going to be awarded a Super Bowl ring this year. That’s not going to sit right with a lot of Bears fans who will probably jump into his mentions to let him know what they think about him.
But Bears fans, it’s not Velus’ fault. Mike Macdonald figured out the best way to utilize Velus Jones that Matt Eberflus couldn’t: don’t let him touch the ball.
