Now that Bayern Munich swiftly walked away from the bargaining table, Liverpool FC has taken the lead on the pursuit for Hertha Berlin phenom Kennet Eichhorn. Borussia Dortmund is still in the mix as well, but it could be difficult for BVB to compete financially with the Reds.
While Bayern Munich balked at the potential of a €10 million signing bonus to secure Eichhorn, Liverpool is hanging in per Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg. One interesting twist to the story is that Liverpool could
employ the same plan as Manchester City was reportedly pitching — to ink Eichhorn and immediately loan him to Bayer Leverkusen:
🚨🔴 EXCL | Liverpool are continuing to push hard behind the scenes for Kennet Eichhorn. New talks have taken place over the last 48 hours.
From the 16 y/o gem’s side, all options remain open at this stage. Leverkusen as a loan destination is also an option being considered by #LFC.
Dortmund are still involved despite reports suggesting they had withdrawn from the race.

If Eichhorn develops into Germany’s next great midfielder, Bayern Munich could rue its decision. However, if Eichhorn flames out and never reaches the heights many are predicting for him, this will be viewed as a deft move and a bullet dodged.
