Maricopa, Ariz. — The Iowa State men’s golf team secured an 11th-place finish out of 25 teams at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, finishing with a total score of 862 (-2) on Wednesday. The Classic was hosted Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, a par 72 layout that stretches 7,330 yards.
Thirty-six holes were scheduled for Tuesday with the final 18 being completed Wednesday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. both days.
The tournament was highlighted by a historic opening round of 272 (-16), which tied for the
lowest round in the field and the 10th lowest round in Cyclone men’s golf history. The Cyclones demonstrated significant scoring prowess throughout the event, leading the entire field in eagles (3) and ranking second in Par 3 scoring (+2) and fifth in Par 5 scoring (-21).
Paul Beauvy of Saint-Alban, France, anchored the Cyclones’ performance, finishing in a tie for 12th place at five under. His tournament was bolstered by a career-low round of 64 on the first day and a team-high 15 birdies, which tied for the fifth-most among all competitors.
Other key contributions came from Owen Sawyer and Dianchao Wu, who both finished tied for 43rd at even par. Additionally, Zach May (T-64th) and Jackson McCommon (T-104th) both carded eagles during the event, with May notably finishing seventh in the field for Par 5 scoring.
No. 28 Southern California narrowly claimed the team title over Arkansas State by a single stroke.
Iowa State is now preparing for its final regular-season challenge. The team will travel to Columbia, Mo., for the Tiger Collegiate Invitational, taking place on Monday and Tuesday. This tournament represents the Cyclones’ final event before the Big 12 Championship held at Prairie Dunes CC in Hutchinson, Kan.
