Let’s just get this straight. There are NO legitimate rumors linking Michael Olise to a transfer away from Bayern Munich. Literally none. Despite that, the internet has been buzzing with stories about Liverpool FC signing the Frenchman, ostensibly as a replacement for Mohamed Salah. Like that’s ever going to happen.
FC Bayern board member and de-facto patriarch Uli Hoeneß emphasized this in an interview, saying: “Liverpool spent 500 million this year and are having a very bad season. So we won’t be contributing
to them playing better next year.” (DPA via @iMiaSanMia)
“We play this game for our fans,” said Hoeneß. “We have 430,000 members, we have many millions of fans around the world, and it does them little good if we have 200 million more in the bank and play worse football every Saturday because of that.”
It is frankly absurd that Uli needed to comment on this. As a reminder, this rumor about Olise did not come from a reputable journalist, or even a disreputable one. It came from A TWITTER ACCOUNT. That’s it. A random, unverified tweet probably cooked up in Chat GPT was all it took for this whole thing to become an internet sensation, backfiltering to the point where the big boss in Germany was asked about it.
What is happening to the world…
