Ole Miss demolished Tulane in a rematch just a couple days ago, and oddsmakers seem to think the Rebels will have an almost identical outcome as its first game against Georgia in another rematch tilt in the Sugar Bowl.
FanDuel Sportsbook odds for the Sugar Bowl opened with the Bulldogs (12-1) as a -6.5 favorite and bettors moved that line up to -7 already. Ole Miss (12-1) led Georgia late in their first game in Athens but ultimately lost 43-35 with a 17-0 fourth quarter disaster.
The Caesars Superdome
is not Sanford Stadium, however, and the Rebels 31-point win over Tulane is only four points different from the September version of the same game. New head coach Pete Golding seamlessly took over the program for at least the last few weeks with no slowing down while Georgia has been resting since its SEC Championship win over Alabama.
The most surprising part of the odds thus far has been the over/under at only 56.5 points. It just seems low to me after these teams combined for 78 points previously. The Bulldogs have been playing better of late as Georgia’s defense has not given up more than 10 points in its last four games while averaging nearly 30 points per game. Ole Miss meanwhile has not been in a one score game since its win over Oklahoma in late October.
There will be a daunting task ahead for Golding and his staff to get this team as focused as it was for the first round of the playoffs while also playing loose and free. Every analyst on ESPN is already predicting Georgia to win and even win the national championship. Could the Rebels win over all of America and play spoiler after all the turmoil and tumult caused by a man baby former coach?
It’s going to be a hell of a good time down in New Orleans.
