One day after adding offensive firepower in the form of UNC-Asheville transfer Kameron Taylor, Luke Loucks continued to fill out his roster with a defensive dynamo, as Anthony Robinson II committed to return home to Tallahassee for his senior season. Credit Joe Tipton with the breaking news.
While the first two transfers secured by Loucks and Co. focused on length and scoring ability, Robinson II is known for his playmaking and defense. As a junior, the All-SEC defensive player recorded 16 games with at least two steals, including seven games with three or more. It was obvious in Loucks’ first season that FSU was at their best when generating stops and turning defense into offense, and Robinson II gives the Seminoles a great “head-of-the-snake” to do just that.
Offensively, his assist rate was top 20 in the SEC in each of his last two seasons. His shooting splits across his three years at Missouri are 50%/31%/73%.
Robinson II played high school ball at Florida High in Tallahassee, under then-head coach Charlie Ward, and received offers from FSU, Auburn, and VT among others. But he chose to play for Dennis Gates and C.Y. at Missouri, making the NCAA Tournament in two of his three seasons in Columbia. Playing under Gates is a good indication that he’ll fit in with the culture Loucks is trying to build in Tallahassee, in addition to his fit schematically.
