Former Kentucky Basketball guard and current College Park Skyhawks player Lamont Butler announced Wednesday that he will miss the entire 2025-26 basketball season after suffering a torn meniscus and ACL.
Butler, who joined the Atlanta Hawks’ G-League affiliate Skyhawks in July, shared the news on social media, expressing disappointment but gratitude as he begins the recovery process.
“Well, this is tough to say, but I will be out for the season with a torn meniscus and torn ACL,” Butler wrote on Twitter. “I was super excited to start the season with the Skyhawks and ready to show why I deserve to be on this stage and more… One wrong tweak and now it’s a change of plans. God will be with me every step of the way in this journey of recovery.”
Butler added that he’s determined to stay positive throughout his rehab. “Please continue to send prayers for a speedy recovery. Until then, I will still be smiling and spreading my love. See y’all next season.”
During his final collegiate season at Kentucky, Butler averaged 11.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game, becoming one of the team’s most reliable two-way players. His leadership and defensive presence were key for the Wildcats, helping them reach the NCAA Tournament.
The Skyhawks, Atlanta’s G-League affiliate, were expected to rely on Butler’s steady guard play this season. His loss is a tough blow for a team looking to develop young talent, but Butler’s message made it clear that he plans to come back stronger than ever.
