Barcelona have issued a statement in response to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s recent rant against the club, referees and the media in an interview back in May.
The Catalans confirmed in the aftermath that they were consider taking legal action against Perez and have now issued an update via the club’s official website.
Here’s the statement:
“FC Barcelona informs that, on this day, the mandatory conciliation claim prior to the filing of a criminal complaint for an offence of slander under
Article 205 of the Penal Code has been submitted against the President of Real Madrid, Mr. Florentino Pérez, as a result of the statements made by him at the press conference held on 12 May and in an interview with a media outlet the following day.
“The purpose of this claim is for Mr. Pérez to retract certain statements that he made with knowledge of their falsity and which are slanderous and offensive to the image and reputation of the Club.
“Should this claim not be duly addressed, FC Barcelona will proceed with the filing of the corresponding criminal complaint.”
Joan Laporta and Rafa Yuste have already been openly critical of Perez’s words, while the 79-year-old has since reportedly submitted a dossier to UEFA about Barcelona and called for the Catalans to be stripped of titles and banned from European competition.
