After a visit to Provo over the weekend, BYU has made the top 5 for 5-star Center Obinna Ekezie Jr .
Ekezie is a member of the 2027 class, but is considering reclassifying to the 2026 class and joining a program this coming season. He turns 18 in May.
Obinna arrived
to Provo for his official visit on Saturday and sources tell me the visit went well (I’d be worried for any school if an official visit didn’t go well). He took an official visit to Arkansas the weekend prior and one to Louisville just days before. His dad attended Maryland, and they’ve been recruiting him for awhile as well.
BYU has a chance for Obinna, but I think Arkansas right now is the team to beat. John Calipari is as well renowned as a recruiter as any coach in college basketball, and Obinna would compete to be the starting center for the Hogs who need a rim protector. BYU’s pitch is easy and straightforward — he has no competition for BYU’s starting center spot.
In addition to Obinna, BYU is also talking to several international big men.
