Liberty quarterback Michael Merdinger has committed to transferring to Minnesota. He completed his redshirt freshman season with the Flames this year after transferring from North Carolina last offseason.
Merdinger saw limited action this season at Liberty, completing 51.2 percent of his passes (21-of-41) for 350 passing yards and one touchdown. He also rushed 19 times for 28 yards and a touchdown.
The Gophers are set at quarterback for next season with Drake Lindsey returning, so Merdinger is expected to compete with walk-on Max Shikenjanski as Lindsey’s primary back-up.
