Newcastle United are preparing plans to reshape their attacking options this summer and are monitoring Nottingham Forest winger Omari Hutchinson, according to a report by Sports Boom’s Ekrem Konur.
The report said Eddie Howe’s scouting team is tracking the 22-year-old as they look to address the issues and depth on the right wing ahead of next season.
Newcastle underwent significant change last summer, with several departures and additions reshaping the squad, but it hasn’t quite worked as most expected.
Anthony Elanga, also coming from Nott Forest, has struggled with consistency since his arriva and he has no goals and just one assist in 22 Premier League appearances this season.
Those numbers contrast with his previous campaign, when he registered six goals and 12 assists and did more than enough to merit its acquisition—to no avail.
Sports Boom reported that Hutchinson fits the profile Newcastle are seeking to fill the winger vacancy with a talented player that can actually produce on the pitch.
Hutchinson is technically strong, capable of working his magic in tight spaces, and able to operate across the front line in a multi-position profile that fits Howe’s preferences.
Nottingham Forest, however, signed Hutchinson for a club-record £37.5 million from Ipswich Town last summer and that might signal a long-term belief in his development and a massive price tag in case someone like NUFC comes calling about the player’s availability next summer.
Newcastle would be required to present what Sports Boom described as a compelling package if they choose to pursue a deal, although, on a more positive note, the report also noted that Hutchinson shares representation with Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, which could offer a potential link in negotiations.
