Notes & Thoughts:
- With only 54 players having at least one snap, the starters played a lot longer than the Penn State faithful might have liked to see.
- The offensive line barely rotated at all until later in the second half. Shelton-Ioane-Dawkins-Donkoh-Rucci will be the likely starting line moving forward into conference play. Much will be made about the struggles the offensive line has had in the first two games, but they will jell as the season continues.
- The top four safeties all had between 30 and 40 snaps in this game.
- Zuriah Fisher played 34 snaps in his return to the lineup, which thinned out the snaps among Dani Dennis-Sutton, Jaylen Harvey, and Chaz Coleman. Fisher’s health will be a top priority for the defensive line.
- Singleton and Allen split snaps exactly 50/50 this week- fitting for an afternoon where they both reached 3,000 yards for their Penn State careers.
- There was very little rotation at linebacker, with Keon Wylie and Anthony Speca not seeing the field until FIU’s final two possessions. Penn State is using a 4-2-5 base defense this season, but the depth at linebacker looks very thin.
- Devonte Ross had 39 snaps (and one incredible touchdown catch) after just 18 snaps in Week 1 while recovering from an injury.
