Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is said to be “absolutely furious” with Julian Alvarez and is so angry with his striker that he “can’t even look at him.”
Talk of Alvarez leaving Atletico for Barcelona has dominated the headlines throughout the summer but Simeone’s side are refusing to let the Argentina international leave for the Catalan giants.
La Liga commentator Phil Kitromilides has been talking about the saga and says that Simeone is raging at his player.
“What I’m hearing is that the dressing
room is very, very disappointed with him. And what I’ve been told by someone who knows the situation is that Diego Simeone can’t even look at him,” he told CBS Sports.
“Like, Diego Simeone is furious, absolutely furious with Julian Alvarez. And rightly so. This is his guy, this is someone who he defended publicly, consistently, last season, when Alvarez went nearly four months scoring.
“He was never questioned by Simeone, never a bad word from Simeone, constantly backed and supported 100% . This is their most important player, their franchise player. The whole project is built around Julian Alvarez.”
Alvarez missed training last week but returned to work with his team-mates on Sunday and is expected to be included in their squad for their next game.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are still believed to be interested in Alvarez but believe he can’t be signed in the current window and will bring in Gabriel Jesus instead.
