There are few Liverpool players in recent memory fans wanted to see succeed quite like Harvey Elliott. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder who arrived as a youth prospect from Fulham in 2019 made no secret that he had grown up a Liverpool fan, and it was clear playing for the Reds was his dream.
For a time, it looked like not only would he play for Liverpool but that he would become a star with them.
After the departure of Jürgen Klopp and the arrival of Arne Slot as manager, though, his opportunities took a hit while injuries further complicated matters. Heading into the summer of 2025, most felt he would depart.
It appears he is now certain to do just that after Liverpool and Aston Villa agreed a season-long loan with a £35M purchase obligation next summer to help Villa get around a profit and sustainability rules (PSR) situation that would have ruled out his signing—or almost any other signing—this summer.
Meanwhile, local reports now claim Elliott has travelled to Birmingham to undergo his medical with Aston Villa and put the finishing touches on his move. Hopefully at Villa he can find the playing time he seemed unlikely to get at Liverpool and turn into the player we all hoped he would become with the Reds.
