Maryland volleyball’s season-opening road trip to North Carolina didn’t exactly go to plan.
The Terps lost both Friday and Saturday to Coastal Carolina and North Carolina, 3-2 and 3-1, respectively. Both games took place on Coastal Carolina’s campus.
Maryland didn’t have a clear top attacker over the weekend, with five players recording over 10 kills in a game and none doing so twice. Lilly Wagner led the Terps in assists against Coastal Carolina but did not play against the Tar Heels.
This marks Maryland’s
first 0-2 start to nonconference play since 2011, when it was still a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The only other 0-2 season start under head coach Adam Hughes came during the pandemic-shortened spring 2021 season, when the Terps only faced Big Ten opponents.
The Terps now move on to a weekend tripleheader in Baltimore, taking on Old Dominion Friday, William & Mary Saturday and UMBC Sunday.
