With the NFL season now over, the eyes of many football fans are looking now toward the offseason, where one former Syracuse Orange player is hoping to take his game to the next level.
The NFL on Wednesday unveiled the full list of over 300 draft prospects who received an invite to this year’s scouting combine, and punter Jack Stonehouse made the cut.
Stonehouse, who punted for the Orange for three seasons, is one of seven “specialists” who received an invite to the combine, which will happen from
February 23 to March 2 in Indianapolis.
He was also one of four punter prospects invited. Outside Stonehouse, the rest of the list includes Tommy Doman Jr. of Florida, Ryan Eckley of Michigan State and Brett Thorson of Georgia.
Stonehouse most recently also had the chance to show some of his skills off during the East-West Shrine Bowl. The former Syracuse kicker averaged over 45 yards per kick during his time with the program and made All-ACC, including the first team, in two of his three seasons.
As of Wednesday, Stonehouse remains one of less than a handful of punter prospects who could hear his name called during the upcoming NFL Draft. Thorson, Eckley and Stonehouse are the only three players at the position projected to be selected, according to Pro Football Focus.
The draft runs from April 23 to April 25.
