Rumors over an extension for Harry Kane’s contract at Bayern Munich have been reported on for a while. Ever since it became clear that Harry Kane had a release clause in his Bayern contract, even more special attention than usual has been afforded to the striker’s contract situation. That release clause is gone now, though, as the last opportunity to trigger it ended at the end of January, 2026. Even before then, Bayern officials have openly talked about wanting to extend the former Tottenham Hotspur
player’s contract.
Yet, despite it all, Bayern have waited to start talks until after the 2026 World Cup and the England captain’s subsequent vacation is over. Those talks have finally, finally started, which means the next question on every reporter’s lips is whether these talks will be successful. But Bayern have publicly been very confident about extending their #9 and board member for sport Max Eberl continued that trend:
“Harry had already enjoyed an impressive career before joining Bayern Munich,” he stated in a recent interview with Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “But it was in Munich that he won his first trophies. I believe that Harry has taken another step forward here, particularly in terms of his personality and leadership qualities. You can feel and see that Harry is happy in Munich, at the club and within the team. I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t extend his contract.”
And does the club have an exact timeframe for the discussions to take place? Eberl chose a slightly unorthodox answer:
“We don’t want to let it become an endless story, and it won’t.”
Bayern fans have been waiting for a while to see talks for the club’s highest earner to start and now see Kane in the final 10 months of his current contract. Understandably, this has left some Bayern fans quite nervous. Making these negotiations an “endless story” would only increase those nerves and the chances that talks will not succeed, so let us hope Eberl and Co. will use the next weeks and months- however long it takes- well.
