Will the NFL suspend Puka Nacua? Or Alaric Jackson, for that matter. The San Francisco 49ers are set to face the Los Angeles Rams in an international game next week.
Nacua and Jackson, the Rams’ projected starting left tackle, aren’t on the commissioner’s exempt list — a sign that they’ll be good to go for Week 1.
For those who don’t know, Nacua is currently facing a civil lawsuit alleging physical assault and battery, in which the victim alleged Nacua bit her on the shoulder on New Year’s Eve. In
this New York Post article, Puka’s ex doesn’t have any specific allegations, but she claimed abuse on Nacua’s part.
We’re a week away from the game, and the NFL still hasn’t decided whether to suspend Nacua or Jackson.
In 2017, the NFL suspended kicker Josh Brown for six games on September 8. In 2015, the NFL suspended one player on September 3, another on September 5, and five others on September 8 for violation of the Personal Conduct Policy.
The year prior, Ray Rice’s domestic violence incident landed him an indefinite suspension on September 8. Six days prior, Josh Brent was suspended for six games. There was one more suspension back in 2010 that occurred on September 1.
So there are enough examples of players getting suspended during the first week of September since 2010. However, we know the NFL cares about getting eyeballs on its product. We’ll see whether the suspensions happen after Australia, since the league probably doesn’t want those incidents discussed on the broadcast or leading up to the game.
