Dana White and company left no stone unturned when it came to planning Saturday’s boxing superfight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
According to a recent document (via Ariel Helwani), UFC’s parent company, TKO, paid the UNLV Rebels football team $1.75 million to move their game this weekend in order to clear space to host Canelo vs. Crawford at Allegiant Stadium. White needed a venue big enough to stage Netflix’s boxing superfight and Allegiant Stadium was the perfect choice.

There are
certainly some other venues in “Sin City” that could have played host to Canelo vs. Crawford, but given Canelo’s star power and ability to draw big crowds all parties involved needed to blow this event out of the water. Staging the fight from inside a stadium that can hold 70,000 people was the move to make. It just so happened to cost UFC/TKO nearly $2 million to have UNLV move their football game.
Of course, this will be a small price to pay when it’s all said and done. Saturday’s massive Netflix event is expected to be one of the biggest boxing spectacles of all time, headlined by two of the most dominant fighters in the sport today. UFC, TKO, White, Canelo, Crawford, and everyone else involved with the event will walk away with a ton of revenue made. Money that will eclipse the $1.75 million paid to UNLV by a laughable amount.
