There’s some good injury news for one of the Seattle Seahawks’ trio of seventh-round rookies.
Former University of Minnesota defensive tackle Deven Eastern, who missed much of OTAs and mandatory minicamp with an undisclosed injury, passed a physical on Thursday and is no longer on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Eastern is already in uniform for what is the first padded practice of Seahawks training camp.
Eastern was taken at No. 242 overall by Seattle, giving them some more interior defensive line depth. The expectation is for Eastern to compete for a roster spot as a nose tackle. Brandon Pili was the only true nose tackle on the roster last year—Jarran Reed and Byron Murphy II both had snaps as NTs—so it’ll be interesting to see how Eastern factors into this year’s competition.
The only Seahawks players currently on the PUP list right now are Nick Emmanwori, who’s recovering from ankle surgery, and Zach Charbonnet, who could start the regular season on PUP as he recovers from an ACL tear. Kenny McIntosh and Tyrone Broden were both initially on PUP but neither one is on the team anymore.
