The Mariners swept the Rays in Seattle on Ichiro weekend in early August. Since then, the Mariners have gone 7-11, and the Rays have gone 10-7.
The Mariners on Monday head to Tampa and get their first look at George M. Steinbrenner Field — a single-A stadium owned by the Yankees where the Rays are playing in 2025. There have been quite a few home runs hit at Steinbrenner this year. The “why” is a bit tricky. The stadium has actually suppressed carry distance more than most (and even more than T-Mobile
Park). Right field plays incredible shallow, as does down the line in left. The average estimated home run distance at Steinbrenner is 374 feet, which is the second shortest in MLB (and about one foot ahead of T-Mobile Park). There are several similarities to T-Mobile Park, in fact, though without the extreme ability to compel strikeouts.
Lineups
Not in the lineup tonight is Harry Ford, who the Mariners called up Monday morning.
