Tyson Fury will run his “tune-up” fight just one day before Anthony Joshua‘s.
Fury will fight Mariusz Wach
on Friday, July 24, in Pattaya, Thailand.Ticket profits will reportedly be “donated to local charities,” and the WBC will present Fury with a “Humanitarian title.”
The 37-year-old Fury (35-2-1, 24 KO) will not be taking any serious risk in this fight, the same as Joshua isn’t on July 25 against Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia.
Wach (39-13, 20 KO) is a familiar face and name to longtime heavyweight
boxing fans, which is another way of saying he’s 46 years old and best known for his many losses to notable opponents over the years. He’s lost three of his last four and is coming off of a 10-round loss to Viktor Faust on March 26 in Budapest.
Fury, of course, fought in April, easily defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov. In his prime, Wach was sort of a Makhmudov of his era, big and sturdy and physically strong, but not a real player at the higher levels of the sport. And we are no longer in his prime.
The early official fight poster does list Netflix among the various logos of real and sorta-real companies that get put on those things, so the early bet is that the fight will be streamed on Netflix. It’s obviously not a big fight, and will go live well outside of prime hours across Europe and the United States, but surely there will be some way to watch it.
