Week 13 saw a major shift in the conference title race and we saw some spectacular performances along with it. Let’s take a look at the top performers from this past weekend.
Offensive Player of the Week
Bryson Barnes (Utah State)
It wasn’t the most efficient passing performance for Bryson Barnes, but the senior quarterback willed the Aggies to an upset victory over Fresno State with his legs. Barnes threw for 150 yards, ran for 113 yards, and even caught a touchdown pass in Utah State’s 28-17 win over Fresno State.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jeremiah Earby (Boise State)
The senior cornerback had a career day in his final home game. Earby intercepted two passes, including one that he returned for 37 yards. He also recovered a fumble and had three tackles. Earby’s performance was critical with the season-ending injury to A’Marion McCoy.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Bailey Ettridge (Nevada)
The freshman punter played a critical role in Nevada’s second straight win. In a game where both offenses struggled, Ettridge’s ability to flip the field was crucial for the Wolf Pack. In four punts, Ettridge averaged 48.3 yards, including a long of 56 yards.
Newcomer of the Week
Anthony Colandrea (UNLV)
Colandrea may have locked up the offensive player of the year award with his performance against Hawaii. Colandrea’s spectacular season continued with the young quarterback completing 21 of 26 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns. UNLV’s 38-10 win over Hawaii keeps their hopes for a conference championship alive.
Freshman of the Week
Sire Gaines (Boise State)
Bronco fans have been waiting all year to see a breakout performance from Gaines and they got it against Colorado State. Gaines was electric and served as a finisher in the red zone and on third downs. He carried the ball 22 times for 149 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Broncos to a convincing victory over Colorado State.
