The Michigan Wolverines have been red hot on the diamond the last few weeks, winning seven of their last 10 games and five consecutive series. They own a 27-17 record overall on the season and have a few weeks left before hitting the road to Omaha, Nebraska for the Big Ten Tournament.
If Michigan keeps playing the way it has been over the last month-and-a-half or so, it very well could sneak into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2022 season. And the Field of 64 projections this week
from Baseball America believe that is exactly what will happen, as the Wolverines are a 3-seed in their latest batch of predictions for this year’s tournament. This is the first time all season that Michigan had made it onto Baseball America’s projected tournament field.
In the projections, Michigan would travel to No. 10 Mississippi State — which would be the regional host as the 1-seed — and would also have to deal with No. 20 West Virginia (2-seed) and Southeast Missouri State (4-seed).
Other Big Ten teams listed in Baseball America’s projections this week include No. 1 UCLA, No. 18 Nebraska, No. 19 USC and Oregon. Purdue is listed as one of the “Next Four Out” teams.
The Wolverines have a road series this weekend at Maryland before a non-conference game at Xavier. Michigan will hit the road immediately after to take on Minnesota for three games before returning home for a non-conference game against Ohio. The Wolverines end the regular season at Ray Fisher Stadium against Ohio State for a three-game series. The Big Ten Tournament is set to begin on May 19.
