The Wisconsin Badgers wrapped up their open fall camp practices this past weekend, as they prepare for the season opener just 10 days away.
As the season comes closer and closer, though, the Badgers are dealing with the injury bug, which has especially hit at the center position.
Starter Jake Renfro went down in practice with a lower-body injury that has him currently week-to-week, questioning his availability for Week 1. With Renfro out, senior Kerry Kodanko assumed the starting role, with redshirt
freshman Ryan Cory elevating to the No. 2 spot.
However, last Thursday, Kodanko exited practice with an upper-body injury, according to UW officials, although it wasn’t considered serious. As a result, Cory got first-team snaps.
The Badgers have envisioned Cory to be their center in the future, but having both Renfro and Kodanko out this close to the opener is a tough situation for the Badgers. There’s a chance that both will be available come next week, but the injuries will need to be monitored heading into Week 1.
Wisconsin is already dealing with the loss of Kevin Heywood for the season. Currently, their offensive line is projected to look like this:
LT Davis Heinzen
LG Joe Brunner
C Jake Renfro
RG Emerson Mandell
RT Riley Mahlman
