Karl makes waves with Real love (Bavarian Football Works)
Well, Bayern Munich phenom really stepped in it the bucket on Sunday, while visiting a fan club didn’t he?
If you somehow missed, the star boy had this to say:
“FC Bayern is a very very big club. It’s a dream to play there. But at some point I definitely want to go to Real Madrid. That’s my dream club, but that stays between us [laughs]. Of course, Bayern is something very special and it’s a lot of fun at the club.”
We covered the initial statement here and a couple of our writers checked in with opinion
pieces that differed (Ineednoname: here and Frank Mo: here). Heck, I even covered it on our podcast (here).
It was that big of a story that we had to hit it from every angle.
So where does this all go from here? Luckily, the wonderful world of music has us covered.
Many fans immediately channeled Pat Benatar’s “Treat Me Right”:
“Do you think I’m a fool, well you better think twice
I’ve had enough baby, it’s time you realized
That you can’t have it both ways, it’s no way to live
You’ve done all the takin’, it’s your turn to give”
Karl should borrow the wise words (at least for this situation and not the creeped out version) of Winger and lead with this excuse:
“I’m only seventeen”
Bayern Munich executives had to be cringing and belting out “Everything Now” by Arcade Fire:
“Every inch of sky’s got a star
Every inch of skin’s got a scar
I guess that you’ve got everything now
Every inch of space in your head
Is filled up with the things that you read
I guess you’ve got everything now”
As for Karl, again, he might never escape these Mary J. Blige lyrics:
“Real love, I’m searching for a real love”
One thing is certain, Bayern Munich fans will be channeling The All-American Rejects’ “Gives You Hell” for a few days:
“Tomorrow you’ll be thinkin’ to yourself
Yeah, where’d it all go wrong?
But the list goes on and on”
For this writer, I’ll chalk it up to youthful ignorance, Zoomer people skills, and a total lack of guidance from his camp on how to handle such questions in a politically correct way. Yup, I’m siding with Kip Winger on this one (as questionable as that might be when looking at the full work of those lyrics!) — Karl is only 17 and has spent most of his life honing his craft on a football pitch without much thought required on public relations or how to speak to a rabid fanbase.
It’s okay. Maybe Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau can be the voice of reason on this (via his X account):
Honesty isn’t always clever. I wouldn’t hang Lennart Karl’s statement about his “dream club” Real Madrid too high either. He loves playing for FC Bayern, has extended his contract long-term, and isn’t planning to leave. Beyond that: The kid is 17 and has guts both on the pitch and at the mic. Of course, he’s got to learn the ropes when it comes to that.
Godspeed Master Karl, your honeymoon phase with many fans is over, but — maybe — a little white lie will work better next time…so just think about Fleetwood Mac:
“Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies.”
Campbell heading to Hoffenheim (Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger)
With only one first-team appearance and 16 minutes in the Hinrunde for Borussia Dortmund, Cole Campbell is making the move to Hoffenheim:
🚨🔵⚪️ BREAKING: Cole Campbell (19/🇺🇸) is transferring from #BVB to Hoffenheim. Sebastian Kehl and Andreas Schicker found a solution late last night: loan with purchase option.
The fee will be around €1.5m. With a firm purchase, the total package comes to just over €10m. Sport1 is also reporting.
The attacking player will depart today from the BVB training camp in Marbella and fly to the Hoffenheim camp in Girona for the medical check.

This seems like a smart move for Campbell, who did not appear to have many prospects for playing time with BVB.
Chiesa on the move? Inter interested (ESPN)
Liverpool attacker Federico Chiesa could be on the move:
Multiple clubs in Italy are tracking Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa, according to Calciomercato. Inter Milan are one of the latest clubs linked with interest in the 28-year-old, with the Nerazzurri said to have been “considering” an approach for some time. Chiesa, who played just 11 minutes in the 0-0 Premier League draw with Leeds on Thursday, continues his struggles to start regularly at Anfield. Italy national team manager Gennaro Gattuso is hopeful of him earning more regular minutes ahead of their FIFA World Cup playoff semifinal against Northern Ireland. Juventus and Atalanta are also reportedly pondering a potential swoop for him.
Pre-ACL injury Chiesa was an absolute beast. What a shame that he has not been able to get back to that level.
Barca getting close with Vlahović (ESPN)
FC Barcelona could be getting close to a deal with Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović:
Barcelona are frontrunners to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, with the Blaugrana already having made a move as they look to replace 37-year-old Robert Lewandowski in the summer. They have spoken to Vlahovic’s entourage several times and could match his current €12 million salary. Bayern Munich are also watching, while AC Milan are also keen. However, Barcelona is the Serbia international’s preferred destination.
Sterling to reject Hammers (The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg)
Multiple-time Bayern Munich target Raheem Sterling will reportedly reject an advance from West Ham:
Raheem Sterling unlikely to be interested in joining West Ham. Wants stability and that’s unlikely to be offered by going on loan to a team fighting relegation
It’s in the name! (Bayern Munich)
