Bayern Munich recorded a statement 2–0 win over Atlético Madrid in their most recent Champions League match. The Bavarians ran out as 2–0 winners at the Metropolitano, with goals from Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer. Speaking of the latter, he has been in sparkling form as of late, and his touchmap against the Spanish side proved just that. Look at this graphic:
13 – Konrad Laimer recorded 13 penalty-area touches against Atlético Madrid, the most by a defender in a Champions League match alongside Real Madrid’s Marcelo in 2017 against Bayern (since data collection began in 2003/04).
Laimer had no touches inside his own penalty area.
Charge.
Bayern achieved this result despite having several key players sidelined with injuries and their head coach absent. Over their last three games, the team managed to earn five points from nine against formidable sides—Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, and most recently Atlético—with wins against Freiburg and FC Magdeburg sandwiched in between, totaling 11 points from 15 in their last five matches.
