MJF returned to AEW last night (Dec. 17) on Dynamite, after nearly three months away, where he demonstrated that he’s still arguably the best promo man in the company.
Maxwell is certainly one of the biggest stars in AEW, but that didn’t stop WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart from saying “Who is that?” in a recent interview, where he also said Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels probably had a sexual relationship.
What makes Bret’s comment about MJF stand out even more is that he actually did a promo segment
with him back at AEW Double or Nothing 2019, where Bret was on hand to unveil the AEW world championship.
With that in mind, Fightful caught up with MJF at Wrestlecade a few weeks ago and asked for his thoughts on Bret’s remark. MJF first blamed Bret’s memory loss on Bill Goldberg, before concluding that The Hitman is just being a troll. Max also told a story about a backstage interaction he had with Bret at Double or Nothing.
“Look, the guy had a seizure. He got kicked in the fucking head. He’s old as fuck. Do I think it’s Bill Goldberg’s fault? Dude, everything is Bill Goldberg’s fault.
Now, what I can tell you is a real story, which makes it all the more funny that he said, ‘Who?’ Now granted, Bret, much like me, is a troll. Do I think he actually doesn’t know who I am? Of course he fucking knows who I am!
But one of my favorite things about that day, is after I absolutely roasted him, and ripped him a new asshole, he goes walking up the stage to get to the back. He fell. Because of Bill Goldberg, not ’cause of Bret. Because of Bill. And I then try to search and find him to make sure he’s okay. I do. And I say, ‘Are you okay, sir?’ And he looks at me and he goes, ‘Your promo.’ I go, ‘Yeah?’ He goes, ‘You’re real good.’ I go, ‘Yeah.’ And he goes, ‘You remind me of a guy I really fucking hated back in the day.’
And I think anyone that’s watching this could put two and two together. I’ll give you a hint, it’s not Bill Goldberg.”
MJF went on to say that Bret was also clearly trolling when he said Sheamus has terrible punches, because the Celtic Warrior obviously has great punches.
Do you think MJF’s theory about Bret Hart being a huge troll is correct, or does old man Bret really mean it when he dumps on so many aspects of today’s pro wrestling? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
