In Dodgers’ minor league games played on Friday, August 29th, we have encouraging performances by top pitching prospects, 18-year-old Emil Morales playing like one of the best players in Low-A, and Jake Gelof sees his name in a headline, now he thinks he’s an MVP.
Bummer of the day
Michael Kopech came in to pitch the seventh inning at Oklahoma City, and walked the first two hitters on eight pitches, then, he walked another batter, throw in a wild pitch, a hit-by-pitch, and that wrapped up a day to forget.
I am assuming the injury delay when he was removed from the game was for the poor batter that he hit.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Oklahoma City Comets defeated the Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) 7-5. Hyeseong Kim reached base three times as the leadoff hitter with a single, double, and walk, and throw in a stolen base for a nice game- line. In relief, the Kopp-Kopech Kopfest Krapped the bed. To get five outs they surrendered five wallks and four runs.
Double-A Tulsa
Jackson Ferris has pieced together a two-month stretch of ace-like performances, that might have been hidden under his very rough first three months. In his last 54 innings, encompassing 10 starts, he has given up just 12 earned runs. In this game, the Tulsa Drillers gave him four runs to work with, and he cruised six and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on two hits. Chris Newell hit his 19th home run, and while that might not stand out, in the Texas League, Newell is third in home runs and RBIs (72) and is having a sneaky good year.
High-A Great Lakes
Speaking of a string of ace-like performances, Adam Serwinowski did his best Steve Carlton imitation, going seven innings, giving up one run on four hits, striking out 12, and walking none. Serwinowski has an ERA of 1.55 after five starts for Great Lakes, with a 37/12 K/W in 29 innings. Kendall George stole three more bases, giving him 89 for the year. He has eight games to go in his quest for 100. Jake Gelof hit a home run, double, and drove in three runs.
Low-A. Rancho Cucamonga
Still 18-year-old, Emil Morales is looking like he is already too good for Low-A. After a single, double, two walk, three RBI game, Morales is hitting .343 with an 1.012 OPS. On this day, all that production was in a losing cause, as the Lake Elsinore Storm came back and defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 6-5. Charles Davalan was benched after failing to get four hits for three consecutive games.
