The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two roster moves ahead of their Week 10 road game against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. Here’s an overview:
- EDGE Nolan Smith was activated from injured reserve to the active roster.
- EDGE Patrick Johnson was temporarily elevated from the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news (and
non-news) on a player-by-player basis.
NOLAN SMITH
The Eagles opened Smith’s 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve on November 4. He was a full participant in practice leading up to this week’s game.
Smith’s return should provide a boost to a pass rush that needs one. His contributions as a run defender matter as well; no one loves to set the edge more than he does.
The Eagles had an open roster spot to fill after recently releasing Patrick Johnson (and then re-signing him to the practice squad).
PATRICK JOHNSON
Johnson will still get to suit up for the Eagles on Monday night despite being released by the team on November 4. He figures to provide depth at edge rusher while mainly contributing on special teams.
With this move, the Eagles figure to have six edge rushers available against the Packers: Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Jaelan Phillips, Brandon Graham, Joshua Uche, and Johnson.
The Eagles can only temporarily elevate Johnson to the game day roster from the practice squad once more during the 2025 regular season. The limit is three and they previously elevated him in Week 1.
NON-MOVES
The Eagles notably did NOT activate Jakorian Bennett nor Willie Lampkin from injured reserve.
The Eagles opened Bennett’s 21-day practice window to return from IR on October 22. This means they have until November 12 to either activate him to the roster or else shut him down for the season. It seemed like Bennett might have a chance to play cornerback against the Packers but that clearly isn’t the case. Look for Adoree’ Jackson or Kelee Ringo to start at cornerback when Cooper DeJean is playing in the slot.
The Eagles opened Lampkin’s 21-day practice window to return from IR on November 6. With Cam Jurgens out, there was thought Lampkin could be activated to provide more interior offensive line depth. But his activation will have to wait until Week 11 at the earliest.
