I heard on the radio earlier this week that this is the biggest game in Tennessee Titans history. That’s an absurd statement, but it is one of the biggest Week 1 games that I can remember. The fanbase is standing on the edge of a cliff, ready to jump. Some of them even want to jump. That is exactly what everyone will do if the Titans lose here.
There are a million things we can talk about surrounding this game, but all eyes are going to be on Cam Ward. The jury is still out on what he will be as an NFL
quarterback. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise on that. This one game can’t change that, but it sure would be nice to see him come out and have a really good game here. Ward playing well in a win is about the only thing that can make the fanbase take a step away from that cliff.
I’m going to be the optimist here and predict that Ward is going to come out and have his best game as a pro. The New York Jets led the league in passing touchdowns allowed last season and didn’t have an interception all season. Their defense should be better this season with the additions of EDGE David Bailey and CB D’Angelo Ponds in the 2026 NFL Draft, but the Titans should still be able to move the ball through the air. Give me Ward for 275 yards and 2 passing touchdowns.
The Titans defense didn’t look great in the preseason, but this is a matchup they should be able to take advantage of. The Jets have some weapons, but they also have Geno Smith. The Titans’ front should be able to get enough pressure on Smith to force him into a couple of bad decisions. The best way to jump start an offense is to give them a short field to work with.
This game will probably be close for most of the afternoon, but I think the Titans pull out a 24-17 win. What’s your prediction?
