It would be a miracle if Kelvin Gastelum keeps his job.
The longtime veteran and winner of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15 missed weight for this weekend’s Noche UFC 3 main card fight against Dustin Stoltzfus at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, coming in at 191 pounds during the early (and official) weigh ins.
That’s five pounds over the middleweight limit when factoring in the one-pound overage permitted in non-title fights.
Remember, Gastelum (19-10, 1 NC) — previously banned from competing at welterweight
— was already in Dana White’s doghouse for his “extremely disappointing” weight miss at UFC Saudi Arabia. It also doesn’t help that Gastelum has dropped seven of his last 10 heading into this weekend’s Stoltzfus fight.
Stoltzfus (16-7) is just 3-6 under the UFC banner.
“I know both of us are in a similar position where one of us might have to go home, the loser,” Gastelum told MMA Junkie. “We’ll see.”
Gastelum, 33, might also have to go home, the winner, after his Noche UFC 3 weight miss.
Fortunately for ticket holders, Stoltzfus agreed to fight anyway and will collect 35-percent of Gastelum’s fight purse. Their three-round contest is currently seated behind Jared Gordon vs. Rafa Garcia at lightweight, Rob Font vs. David Martinez at bantamweight (co-main event), and Diego Lopes vs. Jean Silva at featherweight (main event).
