Barcelona midfielder Gavi has taken aim at Real Madrid after celebrating another La Liga title win for Hansi Flick’s side.
The Catalan giants successfully defended their league title this season, clinching top spot with a 2-0 win over Los Blancos in El Clasico.
Gavi says he loved winning the title in the famous fixture and has hit out at criticism from the capital in the wake of Florentio Perez’s bizarre rant about stolen titles.
“To be honest, I wanted Real Madrid to beat Espanyol so we could beat them
at home and in front of our fans. And that’s what happened. Much better for me,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“It’s always going to be like this. Everyone knows that from Madrid they’re always going to downplay or diminish the things we win or our titles. So that shouldn’t bother us.
“Like I said, it’s a huge achievement to win two league titles in a row with so many homegrown players, so many from La Masia, and without many signings.
“In the end, there were very few signings. Other teams have signed many players every year, and that’s something to be proud of.”
It’s been a rollercoaster year for Gavi. He suffered injury heartbreak at the start of the season and missed most of the campaign.
However, he’s come back strongly since making his comeback and looks to have played his way into Spain’s squad for World Cup 2026.
