Matt Hardy was milliseconds away from winning the TNA World Championship on Impact (Sep. 10, 2026), but he was screwed out of victory.
Hardy challenged Nic Nemeth for the world title in the main event. For a pep talk, Matt spoke with Willow, or was it a hallucination? Jeff Hardy was previously sent to the hospital at the hands of a mystery attacker.
No DQ rules were in effect. Hardy
got busy early suplexing Nemeth through the table.
The moment of controversy came after Hardy connected on a Twist of Fate to Nemeth with the chair around his neck. Hardy had the win in his pocket. 1, 2, what??? Ryan Nemeth ran in to pull the referee out of the ring. That scoundrel! This clip doesn’t show the interference, but it does show a funny bit of the table not breaking for Nemeth.
Leon Slater volunteered to watch Hardy’s back in place of Jeff, but Slater was found victim to the mystery attacker running rampant.
Hardy handled Ryan for a Twist of Fate on the floor, then he returned to the ring for a Twist of Fate to Nic. This was another dramatic near fall as Nic placed his foot on the ropes to break the pin. Hardy made sure to delete Ryan with an elbow drop off the apron through a table. After exchanging low blows, Nic had the last laugh on this night by hitting Hardy with a wrench to win.
TNA posted the full match for your viewing pleasure. At this point in Hardy’s career, you know what to expect with diminished mobility. That said, this match is one of the more entertaining efforts from Hardy in recent times. He dished out pain in creative ways and also took his lumps. TNA delivered drama with Ryan screwing Hardy on that pinfall. This world title bout was a lot of fun for the type of fight.
